This is the reason I think Playtime is SOOO important.

This weekend I broke out the paints and started making random backgrounds. My goal was simply to see what would happen when different color combinations came together under my fingers. I was LOVING this when I had an urge to draw. This is one of the many things that was born from this exploration. AND from this, I am working on a new idea. I’m just having fun with it all – isn’t that how we are supposed to live? Exploring and having fun? When is the last time you let yourself be an explorer in your life?

It’s been a heavy week my friends. But as I was walking through the living room a commercial came on TV and the beat made my hips start to sway. It was for Heineken! I’ve taken it as a sign that I need to have a beer later but in that moment I needed to dance and let it all go…all of it.

Here is that song – it makes so sense, not the video or anything but who cares! Life doesn’t make sense let’s celebrate by dancing! Right now, right in this moment I invite you to turn on this tune, get up and shake it all around the room. That’s right, shake it like you mean it…give in to the nonsense, smile at nothing, laugh like a loon and let it all go for a little while.

I am in the process of working through The Artist’s Way with the fabulously fantastic Dawna over at Voices from the Village. I worked on it once before but it is a completely different and illuminating experience this time around.

This week I am experiencing a week of reading deprivation Yes, that’s right I’m not reading a thing. At first I thought – no sweat! I can totally do that; this will be a breeze! However, as I jumped on the subway yesterday I realized this would be a little more daunting than I originally thought. When taking the train around this city, I normally bury my head in a book. What was I going to do now? I felt naked. But after a few moments, what began to happen was simply amazing.

I listened. I watched. I learned from the people around me without them even realizing it. It was like being on a safari bus observing the wildlife. We are fascinating creatures and while we are similar, we are all so very, very different. There was so much to take in; I have a load of material for stories.

The darker side of this experiment reared its head when I came face to face with my thoughts. Though I have learned to simply observe some of my thoughts and then let them go, I found myself staring down some thoughts that I have been trying to run from without realizing it. That was hard. I tried to squirm and wiggle away but nothing would let me. I had to face truths – some of which I am happy to embrace while others hurt but I stood my ground. It’s time. I can’t run anymore. There are things I simply need to accept – good, bad and ugly. Like cleaning out closets and finding things we forgot we loved alongside the gross things that need to hit the trash, I am weeding through my mind’s closet. I am discarding the things that no longer fit me – some of that is hard. How do you let ideas and in some cases people, go? How do you accept truths that hurt – like realizing you loved someone once far more than they loved you? These are the questions coming to mind. It’s not all pretty but it’s necessary. I’m exceptionally uncomfortable which is fabulous. A little growth never killed anyone.

Tell me, what’s your “thing”? TV? Reading? Video games? What would happen if you removed that one thing from your life and you had to fill that time gap with – thinking? Kitting? Writing? Something completely new? Why not try it? I guarantee it would be liberating.

I know my friend is ok. I don’t know what that means but I know this person still exists in the world. I have so many thoughts and so much to share but that will come shortly. For now, while I send love and prayers for healing out into the world, I cannot help but smile just a little and breathe a little deeper.

We accept people into our lives – both friends and family – regardless of their color, race, religion, or anything because we feel a connection. Not everyone will understand the connection or even like it but I believe in all cases, connections exist for a reason.

I have a friend who does a scary job to protect our way of life and right now, I’m not sure that friend is ok but I can’t whine or cry about it because I accepted this person into my life a million years ago – long before this job – as a friend and I’ve learned over time that nothing can change that. We share a connection. We have had one of those tumultuous friendships where we have gone back and forth equally caring and hurting one another. I continued to accept this person even though I knew that things could go wrong and we might not meet again. That’s why I can’t freak out. I accepted the consequences that might come with the job and I won’t bitch about them now. Despite not knowing if all is ok or not, I can’t do anything but pray and send love out into the world.

Sometimes I hate that – honestly it sucks – and I want to scream. This is the part of me that longs to control things but life is not something to control. It’s simply something to experience. And I am not the person to think of in this situation, my friend is the one who deserves our thoughts, prayers, and encouragement.

I cannot be self-centered and write about my worry. I can only ask to pray for safety and if safety is found then I look to pray for healing – the kind of healing that has more to do with the heart than the body.

As the rain falls heavy upon this city, may love fall heavy upon all the people – those who lives their lives protecting us and our way of life as well as their friends and family.  May love especially find a way to transform the extreme pain felt by the friends and families of the all those lost in the helicopter crash in Afghanistan on Saturday.

And for a family member who underwent an emergency surgery this weekend, I ask for good thoughts. It will be a very long road to recovery.

Today, despite a heaviness of heart, I remember to smile, laugh, share and pray. I invite you to do the same.

I’ve tried to write 3 times but today I just can’t get the words right. My heart is exceptionally heavy right now, exceptionally – have you had those days?

As tears I just can’ help, tears I try desperately to hide from my kids and everyone fall, I have a need for angels and hope. I’ve never ached to know if a friend was ok as I do now.

If YOU can hear me can you please tell me if you are ok? Please.

I can’t put into words …..I can’t. I’ve never longed for a moment more. This is the only song in my head today. It makes sense to a part of me that doesn’t make sense. I’m praying. Please just let me know. Love..always love to all of you today and always.

Sometimes we need to let that power we have within – the one we might not be so sure of – come to the surface. Let it just rage from within and explode onto the surface of the day, the night, the world and the Universe.
